Shortline bus strike ends

MAHWAH, NJ – Shortline Bus Company Monday announced that its week-long strike by bus drivers and other employees is over.

All buses will be back in service as of Wednesday, June 4 at 3 a.m.

Bus drivers, mechanics and ticket agents, members of Local 225 of the Transport workers Union, overwhelming approved a new agreement with the bus company.

They had been on strike since Friday, May 23, and now by a vote of 125 to 41, they approved the three-year pact that is retroactive to mid-April, said Shortline President George Grieve.

Workers had rejected two contract offers and now, the approved package is the initial one the members were offered.

It includes a total of 12 ½ percent in pay hikes over the life of the agreement, increase in vacation time, 401K contribution by the company and a “generous” health plan with 85 percent contribution by Shortline.
